$1,700,000. That's the hammer on Bring a Trailer Lot #266,885, a 576-mile, one-owner 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series in AMG Solarbeam Yellow, sold Thursday, October 8 around 1:13 PM ET. Winning bidder SP91 took it after 31 bids and 98 comments.
It opened at $1,000,000. One commenter summed up the room before it even got going: "Opening bid is higher than the highest bid for any SLS in the history of this car on BAT" (bry4nt).

The price ladder
See the full price ladder graphic (AutoSnipes graphic, 2023 to today).
- 2014 MSRP: $275,000
- Mar 2023, RM Sotheby's Amelia (616 mi): $940,000
- 2024, Bring a Trailer (149 mi): bid to $975,000, not sold
- Mar 2026, Broad Arrow Amelia (776 mi): $885,000
- Aug 2026, Mecum Monterey (179 mi): $1,815,000, the public record
- Oct 8, 2026, Bring a Trailer (576 mi): $1,700,000, sold
Read it plainly: in March a sub-800-mile car brought $885k. In August a 179-mile car set the public record at $1.815M. Today's 576-mile car landed $115k under the record and about 92% above March. That's roughly 6.2x the original $275k sticker.
The record stands. But the August result was not a one-off, and the market just confirmed it on the most-watched platform in the hobby.
Why now: NA V8 plus DCT
The Black Series is the last naturally aspirated gullwing, and it pairs that M159 with a dual-clutch instead of a torque converter. Buyers are paying hard for that combo right now. One BaT commenter put it bluntly: "Cannot believe these surpassed the value of SLR 722… Shows how much torque converter transmissions are not favored in todays market" (clkgtr).
Same pattern elsewhere: a 10,000-mile Ferrari 458 Speciale sold at no reserve for $1,016,500 on BaT on October 1. Last-of naturally aspirated cars with sharp gearboxes are the hottest lane in modern collector money.
Not everyone is buying the hype. "These cars were around 1,000,000-1,200,000 at the beginning of the year and for some reason they just popped" (RSRlover). And the skeptic's take: "Bring A Trailer seems to be becoming Bring A Dealer with these inflated bids" (AMGFanatic63).
Dealer asks vs real hammers
DriveIndex currently tracks dealer asks for Black Series cars from about $1.6M to $2.5M. Asks are wishes. Hammers are data. Today's $1.7M is a real, public, paid number for a low-mile one-owner car, and that's the comp every dealer and private seller will now quote.
Own a Black Series, Speciale, or another last-of NA car? Seller checklist
- Miles and ownership chain. One owner and sub-1,000 miles is what separated $885k from $1.7M in seven months.
- Color and spec. Solarbeam, carbon packages, and factory options matter. Get the build sheet or window sticker.
- Fresh service with receipts. This car got plugs, filters, and every fluid before the sale. Buyers bid on documentation.
- Clean history. Carfax, title status, and any paint or PPF notes up front. Surprises in the comments kill momentum.
- Photos that answer questions. Underside, tire date codes, odometer, door sills, and every flaw.
- Know your comps. Use the ladder above, not dealer asks, when you set expectations.
